Massage Lotion Makes Metal Keys Smell Funny - Anyone Know Why?

After I use Biotone Advanced Therapy Massage Lotion and then pick up
metal keys, the keys smell fishy. The lotion is fresh and has no off
odor. Contact with my clients' skin doesn't trigger the smell, nor with
mine, except when I am also holding metal keys. (I've been holding them
because there's no sink in the massage room where I work and I need the
keys to get back in. I've started holding the keys with a tissue or
using another lotion.)

To remove the odor from the keys, I have to soak them in baking soda and
detergent for at least 15 minutes.

This doesn't happen with other brands of lotion or Bioton's dual purpose
creme. What could be causing this?

That's weird. I tried rubbing some Biotone on my keys and didn't
notice any smell. My best guesses are:

1. There's something weird about that particular bottle of lotion.
2. There's something in the combination of the lotion, your body
chemistry and the metal of the keys that's causing the smell.

My suggestion would be to go to a lock and key shop, they have colored
plastic covers that can be put on the head of a key to make them
easier to tell apart. Putting one of those covers on your key should
keep the lotion off the metal.

This would probably be from the essential oils used in the "unscented"
cream.
